Welcome to the NASA Virtual Airspace Modeling and Simulation Project!

Welcome to VAMS!

The Virtual Airspace Modeling and Simulation (VAMS) Project is a part of the Airspace Systems (AS) Program, which supports NASA's strategic efforts to revolutionize aviation. Initiated in fiscal year 2002, the VAMS Project is in response to projected air traffic growth and the lack of sufficient future capacity in the nation's air transportation system. Final VAMS products will be used to assess promising technological and conceptual approaches in order to meet these future capacity needs. In coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), VAMS is exploring next-generation operational concepts aimed at expanding the current airspace system and developing the modeling and simulation capability needed to analyze and validate these concepts.
